What is a Legal Description?
It's a method of describing a parcel of real property that is recognized by law, including the lot and block (recorded plat) method, the government survey method (also called the township/range method or rectangular survey method), or the metes and bounds method. The legal description is used when conveying property ownership.
Looking up a Description
To get the full legal description for a property, you can refer back to your deed, contact a title company for assistance or search for the last recorded deed at the Auditor's recording department.
To find the description of a tax parcel, look up the property by address or tax parcel number on Parcel Details. Please keep in mind that the tax descriptions contained in the Assessor's Records are often abbreviated legal descriptions for the property and may not contain all the information relating to the legal boundaries of the property as a deed would.
