Special Election Ballots to Be Mailed This Week

PORT ORCHARD – Ballots for the Feb. 13, 2018, Special Election will be mailed Wednesday to voters residing within the Bremerton and North Kitsap School Districts.
Approximately 57,000 registered voters will be asked to weigh in on two property tax-based funding measures in each of the districts. An online Voters’ Guide at bit.ly/KitsapLVP provides information and arguments about the measures.

“This election is important as the results will have a direct impact not only on voters, but the community as a whole. We are optimistic that the percentage of voters that choose to cast a ballot will increase as voters become more aware of the importance of exercising their fundamental right to vote,” said Dolores Gilmore, Kitsap County Auditor.

Ballots received by the Monday before Election Day will be included in the initial returns released on election night. Twelve ballot drop boxes (bit.ly/kitsapboxes) will be available 24 hours a day beginning Friday until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Mailed ballots must be postmarked no later than Feb. 13 to be counted.

Kitsap residents registered to vote who do not receive a ballot by Feb. 1, or who have a damaged or lost ballot, should request a replacement by contacting the County Elections Office via email at auditor@co.kitsap.wa.us  or by phone at 360-337-7128. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Election Day, Feb. 13, the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents who are not currently registered in Washington have until 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 5 to register in person at the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office at 619 Division Street in Port Orchard. Ballots for military members and overseas voters registered in Kitsap County were sent on Jan. 12.
