Traffic Signals - Who Maintains What?

Kitsap County owns and maintains 46 signalized intersections. Additionally, through interlocal agreements, Kitsap County maintains 6 intersections in the City of Port Orchard and 9 intersections in the City of Poulsbo.

Navigating a Dark Signalized Intersection

When approaching an intersection with a traffic signal that isn't functioning, follow these safety guidelines:

  • Treat the intersection as a four-way stop: Every vehicle must come to a complete stop. Proceed in the order you arrived.
  • Proceed with caution: Move slowly and carefully through the intersection. Even if you have the right of way, watch for drivers who may not follow the rules.
  • Yield to pedestrians: Always give pedestrians the right of way.
  • Stay alert: Pay close attention to your surroundings and be prepared for unexpected actions from other drivers.
  • Report the outage: Once you’ve safely passed through the intersection, and if it’s safe to do so, report the signal outage by calling 9-1-1.

Reporting a Traffic Signal Problem

If you're reporting an urgent issue such as a traffic signal outage, signal in flash mode, or a damaged signal pole, call 9-1-1 immediately.
