Writers requested for ballot measure arguments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 19, 2019
PORT ORCHARD -- Space is available for citizens who wish to write arguments against one or both measures proposed by the Bremerton School District on the Feb. 11 Special Election ballot.
The district is proposing two levies. One would replace the existing maintenance and operations levy when it expires. The other is a facilities capital projects levy for health and safety improvements.
According to Revised Code of Washington 29A.32.280, districts proposing a measure are responsible for appointing committees to write arguments for and against the measure. When the district does not appoint a committee by the resolution deadline, the Auditor’s Office may make the request for writers. The committees must be formed by end of day Monday, Dec. 23.
Resolutions submitted by the districts for each measure are on the Elections page of the Kitsap County Auditor’s website,
kcowa.us/elections and the Auditor’s Office will provide explanatory statements written by the district’s attorney. The committee’s argument against either levy would be due by Jan. 2. A rebuttal to the “for” committee’s argument would be due by Jan. 7.
Committee members do not have to be residents of the district in order to draft arguments. Interested parties should contact the Elections Division by 4:30 p.m., Dec. 23. Please email auditor@co.kitsap.wa.us or call 360-337-7128 if interested.
