February 14 Special Election Ballots on the Way
PORT ORCHARD – Voters in South Kitsap and Bainbridge Island should receive ballots by the end of the weekend. Ballots for the February 14, 2017 Special Election were mailed Wednesday. This election will include two funding measures each for the South Kitsap School District and the Bainbridge Island School District.
The Kitsap County Auditor's Office – Elections Division expects to issue about 65,000 ballots. That includes about 2,600 military and overseas ballots that were already sent 30 days ahead of the election.
An online voters' guide with arguments about the ballot measures is available at https://www.kitsapgov.com/auditor/Documents/LVPFeb2017.pdf (Note from 2/26/2020: link no longer available).
"Voters who participate in this Special Election will choose to pass or fail these local funding measures, so it is important to vote and return your ballot before 8 p.m. Election Day," said Dolores Gilmore, Kitsap County Auditor.
The county has five ballot drop boxes open through 8 p.m., February 14. Locations for the drop boxes are listed on the county elections website. Voters who mail a ballot must do so early enough to ensure it is postmarked by February 14. Voting Centers are open Election Day in the County Administration Building in Port Orchard and at the Poulsbo Fire Station near Highway 305.
Registered voters who do not receive a ballot by February 1, or who have damaged or lost their ballot, should request a replacement by contacting the County Elections Office at auditor@co.kitsap.wa.us or at (360) 337-7128.
Residents not currently registered in Washington have until 4:30 p.m. on February 6 to register in person at the county elections office at 619 Division Street in Port Orchard. Members of the military have until 8 p.m. on Election Night to register.
