Precincts, District Assignments and Precinct Committee Officers
Precinct Committee Officers for the major political parties are elected in the August Primary of even-numbered years and begin their 2-year terms on Dec. 1 of that year.
Anyone who is a registered voter and a member of a major political party may become a candidate. Since Washington voters do not register by political party, a candidate declares themselves to be a member of a political party at the time of filing.
If only one person files to run for a precinct office, that person is considered elected and does not appear on a ballot.
Appointed PCOs are chosen by the party's county central committee. (RCW 29A.80.031)
Voters choosing a PCO must affirm on the same ballot that they are members of the party and can only vote in one party's PCO election. (RCW 29A.52.171)
