Voters with challenged ballots can still resolve them

PORT ORCHARD – The Kitsap County Auditor's Office reminds voters whose signatures were challenged that there is still time resolve that issue.

Voters can verify at VoteWA.gov whether their 2020 General Election ballot was accepted. If it wasn't, and the "Ballot Status" reason offers "Challenged – Signature Does Not Match," voters can cure the issue by returning a signature update form.

"We know voters who took the time to turn in a ballot want their vote counted," said Paul Andrews, Kitsap County Auditor. The number of ballots not counted in Kitsap County because of signature issues is less than 1 percent. "But I'm sure every voter cares 100 percent about their own ballot."

Voters whose signatures on the General Election ballot were considered to not match may have already received a letter from the Auditor's Office with a signature update form. The form is also available at https://www.sos.wa.gov/_assets/elections/signature_update_form_oct%202020.pdf

Andrews said a few dozen are being returned every day.

Next week Elections staff members will begin calling voters who still need to return the forms and whose phone numbers are current with the Elections Division. Forms can be returned by email to auditor@co.kitsap.wa.us or by mail to Kitsap County Elections, 614 Division Street, MS-31, Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Voters have until Nov. 23.
