Fair voters give ice cream the top nod
KITSAP COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS - Fair attendees who visited the Kitsap County Auditor's booth at the Kitsap Fair picked ice cream as the fair's top sweet, a come-from-behind victory likely influenced by the warmer weather during the fair's final two days.
Ice cream finished the fair with 29 votes, eking out the win over cotton candy, which netted 28. Elephant ears finished third with 25 votes, followed by shaved ice with 12 and churros with four.
After Thursday cotton candy and elephant ears were solidly the two front-runners with 18 votes each. Ice cream was well behind with 11. Temps were high Saturday and especially Sunday, though, and ice cream finished strong and took the top nod.
There was a write-in space available, and Kitsap County Auditor Paul Andrews allowed anything written in to pass as a sweet. "There is no rule against someone eating a corn dog for dessert," Andrews said.
